Acupressure is a branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a therapy that has existed for over 5,000 years.

Acu means point. Acupressure therefore uses the fingers to press key points on the surface of the skin to stimulate the body’s natural self-healing abilities.

Acupressure is based on the idea that energy or life force called Qi or Chi flows through the body & is fundamental to a person’s health. The Qi (energy) runs through the body via Meridians, channels or pathways which are found throughout the body that connect the Acupressure points to each other as well as to internal organs.

The goal of Acupressure is to stimulate & unblock the energy, the circulation of Qi by activating specific acupressure points. Stimulating these points triggers the release of endorphins, which are neurochemicals that relieve pain.

Also pressing these points releases muscular tension enabling the body to relax deeply & increase the circulation of blood, oxygen & Qi (energy) throughout the whole body. Acupressure also helps the lymphatic system (moving fluids & getting rid of waste out of the body) & stimulates the functioning of the hormonal glands.
